Air pollution has become a global issue. Much of the anthropogenic air pollution travels long distances into areas far from the emission source and affects human health and damages flora and fauna. Large-scale fossil fuel combustion and fossil fuel related activities, but also biomass burning, and volcanic eruptions are important emission sources. The quantification of the concentrations near the sources and the subsequent transport of pollutants is essential to monitor air pollution conventions.
