The aerosol Direct Radiative Effect (DRE) indicates the absorption of UV radiation by aerosols that are found over clouds. The aerosol DRE presented here are derived over a limited area off the west coast of Africa only, and the aerosols found above the clouds are smoke exclusively. The DRE is expressed in Watts per square meter (W m-2) based on the Differential Aerosol Absorption (DAA) technique, and derived from the instruments SCIAMACHY and OMI (combined with MODIS). Below the data products that are currently available from these instruments can be accessed.

The OMI-MODIS aerosol DRE over clouds is available from June-October in the years
2005-2020, in an area over the south-east Atlantic (20°W-10°E, 20°S-10°N).

The SCIAMACHY aerosol DRE over clouds is available from June-September in the years 2006-2009, in an area over the south-east Atlantic (20°W-10°E, 20°S-10°N). |
